WHO ARE TRADE UNIONS IN COMMUNITIES (TUIC)?

We are a group of active Trade Unionists from different branches of the Trade Union movement who seek to build closer relations with our communities.

We are a completely voluntary organisation with no paid staff. Our funding comes from our Trade Union branches which include the following unions: RMT, UNITE, UNISON, UCU, EIS, PCS, FBU and more.

Representatives from these unions, along with community activists, staff our office on a voluntary basis.

We provide direct advice on work related issues, with a view to building the Trade Union movement and enhancing the lives of the community. We will give initial advice and direct individuals to the appropriate union to deal with any issues.

As well as dealing with work related issues, we will provide a “sign posting” service for issues out with our sphere of expertise eg: Housing, Benefits, etc:

We work closely with the City of Edinburgh Council and Fair Rents, as well as benefit advocates. 

We are supported by the Scottish Trades Union Council (STUC) as well as Edinburgh TUC and Midlothian TUC.

We have no party political affiliation and our ultimate aim is to build a firm Trade Union / Community base that will together oppose the attacks on our movement and communities.
